I love to make/decorate the children's food to make it look interesting and enticing. Recently I bought a Mickey Mouse pancake pan. I use it for various food items. I also use it to prepare Mickey Mouse pancake for their recess and home snack. All for my 2 precious babies! :)

Outdoor at Greenwich
We like to take the children out to play at the playground. Most of the time, we go to Pasir Ris park. Recently, we discovered a small playground at Greenwich. It has the swings that the children like. We also took our new giant spade along to dig in the sandbox. After playing in the small playground, we went over to Greenwich for lunch in Kopi@Seletar foodcourt, before proceeding to the deck to do water play. Simple pleasures at no cost, plus, lots of fun for the children :)
Using the Public Phone
I thought one of the essential skills for Pb to learn when she goes to primary school was to learn how to go about using the public phone. This is for emergency use. Hence, on the first week of her school, I took her to the void deck to use the public phone. Once she knew how to use the public phone, she started calling me everyday during recess time for the whole of Term 1. Recently, she has just received her school ez-link card. Now she goes to the library to read and borrow book using her new photocopied ez-link card :)
Back to Basics - Board Games
The children are getting older and more mature. So I decided to expose them to my childhood games such as Monopoly, Snakes and Ladders, Uno, Jenga, Domino etc. They are able to play the games and we try to simplify the rules for them. Snake and Ladder is Reuben's favourite and it is good for him to practise his counting skills. Sometimes, he will bend the rules to advantage himself when he plays with his grandparents :) Such wit he has! But we discourage him, telling him to play fair and follow the rules. On the whole, they are amiable when playing the games. We hope to get them to play board games more often rather than electronic games because they will be able to pick up social skills and values. Most importantly, it's a good time for family bonding :)

Still learning the game of Monopoly... fine-tuning their skills...

Reuben's favourite game, Snakes and Ladders...
Good for counting to 60...

Thomas Domino... Good for matching...

Jenga, learn that a firm foundation is very important...
good for learning balance...

Phoebe's First Day of School
Today is the last day of Term 1. One term of 10 weeks have passed and I have not blog about Phoebe's first day of school. I thought I better blog about it before my memory of her first day of school fades off. I shall try to recall as much information as possible.
Excitedly, Phoebe and I packed her school bag on the night before. I also prepared her snack in a snack bag for recess. Parents were not allowed into the school premise because the school was undergoing upgrading. The principal was afraid that parents might be put in a dangerous spot or get in the way of the workers. Hence, Pri 5 prefects were deployed to be the buddy of the P1 newbies. Phoebe's buddy was a nice girl named Allyssa. At the end of the buddying, (I think was 3 days?) Allyssa made a bookmark for Phoebe. Phoebe reciprocated by making a bookmark for Allyssa too. I also added a small pack of Tolberone chocolate for her buddy to expression my appreciation for taking care of my little girl :) There was no crying or reluctance, just plenty of excitement and anticipation! :) Phoebe is my brave little girl! :)

Snip!
After about a month in school, Pb said that she wants her hair to be cut short, in bob hair style because her class monitor, Emma, has just had her hair cut short too. She wants to be like her friend. I didn't know that peer influence can step in so quickly, just 1 month into school. :p Anyway, we tried to discourage her especially when her ballet exam is going to be in April but she insisted on it. So, Mommy me decided to snip for her as Pb could not wait till weekend and on weekdays, the hairdressing shop does not open till 11 a.m., which will be too late.
After snipping, Pb suddenly realised the reality and regretted having her hair short coz she has always like having long hair, just like Rapunzal. I told her that her hair will grow again. It's alright :) And mommy did not cut it too short either. :) And I told her that she should always listen to the adult's advice. She has learnt her lesson :)

Everyday Routine
Time truly flies. In the midst of my busy-ness, 1.5 months have passed. Everyday, I would send the little boy to school, go home and revise work with Pb and get her ready for school and then pick Rb up and bring him home and send Pb to school, then rush to work and finish work at 6 p.m. and then rush to PL to pick Pb again. Then we have our dinner, showered and then sit down with both kids at the dining table to do some school or homework and at the same time, do my marking, then we retreat to the bedroom to read some story books, do devotions and sleep. 1.5 months, Monday to Friday, same routine. I hope that my children will grow up to be disciplined and motivated adults. Tired, but happy I am. :)

SKMCC Concert Write-up
From end of Term 3, 2011 onwards, the children in SKMCC have be practising hard for their year end concert. Just about a month before the concert, I asked Phoebe to write about her concert and this was what she has written. She also drew a picture to accompany her writing. Of course, I did scaffolding with her in the content, sequence of events and also the grammatical and spelling aspect. I was proud that she had ideas of her own and was able to complete this piece of writing with some help from me. I'm proud of her, as always! :)

Phoebe's Graduation Concert
I realised that I have not blogged about Phoebe's Graduation Concert in SKMCC in November 2011. It was a splendid concert and being the last year in SKMCC, Gong-gong and Mama also came to watch their precious granddaughter Phoebe graduate. This concert was special for Phoebe because she in the graduating class and she was also chosen by her teacher to be the emcee for the show. Seeing her standing on the stage, facing 300+ parents /grandparents, reciting her emcee script, I felt extremely proud of her. However nervous she was, she managed to complete what she needed to say. I pray that in future, whatever challenges she may meet, she will be courageous to face it, commit it to God and complete the task that she has to do - to Trust God and simply Obey in Him, and that's the theme for SKMCC's 9th graduation concert.
I'm very thankful to SKMCC for nurturing my girl into someone with values, not just head knowledge of information but someone with developing EQ. I can never thank enough of the dedicated teachers and SKMCC. They should be paid with equivalence as the Primary and Secondary school teachers! The amount of hours they have put in just for the props and decoration is commendable! Every prop was made with love and precision! I praise God for these wonderful extraordinary teachers! :)

After being in SKMCC for 9 years since the school had started, Mrs Tan, the principal has decided to leave the school. God has other plans for her but still, I was saddened by the news. Though Phoebe had graduated from SKMCC, Reuben was to enter in 2012. I was afraid that the school would be affected with the change of principal. However, what He has taken away, He would replace another one with the same (if not, better) dedication. We just have to trust in Him.

Since Reuben had started school, I have witness Miss Sim's gentleness with the children. I pray that God will continue to anoint the new principal and teachers of SKMCC.
