No waiting, no mercy

This morning, I reminded myself that  must treasure and enjoy my children's childhood. This morning when I send pb to school for choir practice, she was wearing jeans and polo t. I suddenly realized that she has grown so much taller now, almost Nia's height. Suddenly I felt v heartache coz as much as I want her to grow up to be totally independent, I also miss her baby/ toddler/ preschooler/ lower primary age. I must cherish their childhood before they turn teens...

Time shows no mercy and waits for no one!

When Spontaneity Strikes

As what my personality test says, I'm a spontaneous person... So, suddenly I feel like sewing... And I sewed this cushion cover. Trying to get accustomed to my mom's sewing machine... Didn't set the tension right... But never mind lah! Just doing this for fun!! Word of caution : Don't ever flip the inside out to see the horrid stitches!! Yiyi, this one is for you...

First time using my mom's sewing machine... Need to orientate myself to the parts...

The end product, when it is puffed up with an insert... This side looks ok!

Don't look at the stitches... Don't look at the stitches...

Word Bank Book

Today I want to recommend this simple but useful book. It's called the Word Bank Book! Have you had the experience of having annoying kids pestering you for words that they couldn't spell when they wanted to write something, eg their diary? What do you do? Spell for them right? And then they would come to you for umpteen times and you really feel like telling them to stop writing immediately but we are all loving devoting nurturing parents/ educators right? So we will grit our teeth and spell through our lips while putting on a false smile.Fret not parents, My Word Bank book IS one of the solutions! (I've no shares in this company btw, just sharing a tip that works for me).

This word bank book has been around since Pb's time. It was used in her school. So how does it work?

The pages are arranged in Alphabetical order, thus the kids learn to flip it like a dictionary. When they want to spell a particular word (eg clothes), they will turn to that particular page of the first to look for that word. In this way, it teaches the children to be resourceful and resilient AND most importantly, it gives me breathing space!

The words that are printed by the publisher are common words. Along the way, the kids do encounter words that they can't spell and cannot find in the book, then I will spell for them to add on to their existing list of useful words.

So whenever Pb (when she was young) n Rb want to do writing, like in this case, he was writing his diary, I'll tell him not to bother me unless he really needs a particular word not found in the Word Bank Book. 😁 Peace! 🌈

Beng Wan Pri Colleagues

When I first graduated from NIE, I was posted to Beng Wan Primary school to teach. From there, I have met wonderful staff. Till now, I am still in contact with a few of them even though we are not teaching in the same school anymore. I'm so happy to be able to meet up with Jennie and Rachel this holiday. The last time we met was about 3-4 years ago! They are the people who are really true to themselves and they teach with a heart. MOE is v blessed to have teachers like them!

Pompompurin Cafe

The novelty of visiting this Golden Retriever themed cafe thrilled the young and old children . Pb and Rb had a fun time with their fav aunt!

Sewing our Bond together

Every school holidays, we try to let the kiddos learn something fun, be it a game, a skill or a simple task! This holiday, I've signed Pb up for a sewing workshop. We learnt to make cushion covers! It was v simple, a little challenging but v fun! Pb and I have been wanting to learn how to see. Today our dreams are fulfilled. It was fun to learn with Aunty Linda and SJ 😄 We will try to make more cushion covers so that we will not forget the skill 😄

Heart Melts Faster than Ice Cream!

Usually after each school exam, I will give little girl an ice-cream treat. This is my special way of rewarding her with something sweet for her effort in putting her best and she loves ice cream. I wanted to give her a better choice than McDonald's ice cream cone but we didn't have the luxury of time as she had to go for her enrichment class. She gladly and sensibly settled for a simple choco cone and as she sat down for 15 mins to enjoy this treat, she told me, "I love this mommy and me time." Awwww... upon hearing that, my heart melts faster than the ice cream. I told her that we must take a wefie together so that we can always remember this beautiful memory. My dearest girl... God is soooo good to me! :) I'm very blessed! :)

My First School 快乐第一班 Ep 01

During the Dec School holidays, Rb had a go on a Channel 8 Serial "My First School  快乐第一班 ". He participated in a 7-day filming and the filming hours were long for a child. However, I must commend that though it was tiring, this 7-year-old little boy has displayed resilience and perseverance. He did not throw tantrum, whine or grumble. He completed his assignment with joy. He did comment that sometimes the waiting could be very long and he was bored in the process of waiting and sometimes, they could get very hungry when the food did not arrange on time but there was no grouses on his part. Me, being a mommy, on the other hand, was a little heartache to see him all washed out and dirty at the end of the day and I ask myself is it worth it coz he was just a small calefare. But on every Tuesday, when all of us parked ourselves in front of the telly, when we got all excited over spotting Rb in the various scene, even for that 1-2 sec, we knew that the whole process is all worth it. The experience was memorable and as what Pb always like to say, "It's such sweet memories right, mommy?" I just have to nod in agreement.

I pray that Rb and Pb will learn to face challenges in their lives with positivity and enthusiasm. I pray that their childlike faith will continue to be their strength in all the days of their live! I pray that, as a family, we will continue to support each other in anyway and every way that we can. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Enjoy his debute episode! :)

Fathers' Day Promo in Channel 5

Through Yiyi, Rb landed in a promo for 2016 Fathers' Day Celebration. It was only a 4 sec commercial but the filming was about an hour, not too bad as compared to the Channel 8 Serial "My First School" which was a whole day job. Well, whether is it a short commercial filming or long serial filming, Rb took it in good stride and he always completes his given task / assignment without any grouses! I'm glad that he has a sense of responsibility and good camaraderie since young.
