Today I want to recommend this simple but useful book. It's called the Word Bank Book! Have you had the experience of having annoying kids pestering you for words that they couldn't spell when they wanted to write something, eg their diary? What do you do? Spell for them right? And then they would come to you for umpteen times and you really feel like telling them to stop writing immediately but we are all loving devoting nurturing parents/ educators right? So we will grit our teeth and spell through our lips while putting on a false smile.Fret not parents, My Word Bank book IS one of the solutions! (I've no shares in this company btw, just sharing a tip that works for me).
This word bank book has been around since Pb's time. It was used in her school. So how does it work?
The pages are arranged in Alphabetical order, thus the kids learn to flip it like a dictionary. When they want to spell a particular word (eg clothes), they will turn to that particular page of the first to look for that word. In this way, it teaches the children to be resourceful and resilient AND most importantly, it gives me breathing space!
The words that are printed by the publisher are common words. Along the way, the kids do encounter words that they can't spell and cannot find in the book, then I will spell for them to add on to their existing list of useful words.
So whenever Pb (when she was young) n Rb want to do writing, like in this case, he was writing his diary, I'll tell him not to bother me unless he really needs a particular word not found in the Word Bank Book. 😁 Peace! 🌈
