Reminiscing Chinese New Years

Today is the last day of the Chinese New Year. I thought of putting an entry of my two children in their traditional Chinese costume. Since birth, whenever it's Chinese New Year, I would always buy traditional Chinese costume for my children, even if they were to wear it for only one time. I thought that it is only meaningful that Chinese should wear Chinese costume, just like seeing the Malays wearing their traditional Baju during their Hari Raya celebration. What's more, children usually look especially cute in the costume and they probably would not want to be in costume anymore once they hit their teens.

Phoebe's first costume was a cotton Tweety Bird cheongsam but because she was almost neckless, her high chinese collar was concealed under her double chin. I would get pants suit or cheongsam for her on alternate years.
Reuben's first Chinese costume was actually a romper. I thought the design was really unique and simple. Reuben has always look nice in white. This year, I got him a suit with shorts rather than long pants because I thought it might be a little too warm for him to wear long pants.

Will I carry on with the costume custom ? I'm not sure. Phoebe seems to like it but not Reuben. Maybe when he's older next year, he'll learn to appreciate the beauty of our traditional costume! :)

now she always call herself jie jie... when my mum called her "ah mueh" (teochew for little sister), she ask," why call me ah mueh? I'm jie jie..." haha
