Pb's Birthday Request

Pb seldom request for toys or things. She has simple pleasure and demands - A library book and a bowl of home cooked porridge would make her a satisfied girl. However, this year, she asked if she could celebrate birthday with her classmates. I thought about it and decided to agree coz
1) she hardly request
2) it's a good chance for her to bond with her classmates
3) it's a good opportunity for me to know her friends
4) I want to create the norm for her to invite her friends over and a norm for me to know her classmates so that by the time she's a teenager, it would have become a natural process for me to know her friends and it would not be seen as an intrusive attempt.
5) it's a good breather amidst exam preparation

With this hidden agenda, we decided on the place to have the celebration. I wanted something fuss-free and less demanding on my part coz I'm already very busy in school and at home going through exam revisions with her. It would suicidal for myself to add on more planning and stress. Thus, after much planning and budgeting, we decided on the Build-a-Bear-Workshop and a lunch in Swenson's, all in Plaza Singapura. I told Pb to select only 8 classmates (with Rb and herself, would be 10) to keep the cost down. Thank God for discounts in Capitaland vouchers and Groupon for offering Swenson's vouchers at 30% off. We were able to deflat some cost.

On the whole, the Build-a-Bear-Workshop was awesome. The facilitator was gentle and the girls had a good time exercising their choices. Lunch in Swenson's was also delectable. I think the girls felt empowered and grown up given the choice to select their own food and enjoying the company of their friends.

After the party, Pb thanked us for allowing her to have a party with her friends. She said it was her best party ever. I could tell that the girls had enjoyed themselves tremendously.

Back in school on Monday, they were still discussing about the party. I told her to cease discussion coz I wouldn't her other friends to feel bad or left out. Neither would I want her to look like a show-off. Being obedient, she simply obey :) God bless Pb and may He continue to nurture and mould her into the person He wants her to be. In God we trust! :)
