Curly and The Log

Usually, the school will do activities related to the readers. Actually, it is very much similar to what we're doing in Primary school's STELLAR programme except that in primary schools, there are many more worksheets to be done. In fact, I think the primary school curriculum is following what the Pre-schools are doing. Sometimes, I wish that I'm more passionate about what I'm delivering, just like Phoebe's pre-school teachers. I also wish for more time for the primary school children to play and explore.

Anyway, for "Curly and the Log", the children made Curly the worm out of egg trays. Phoebe brought her Curly home and I love it! She's very proud of her work :) Me too! :)

After doing so much research on preschool education and activities, I also find primary school curriculum here too performance-based and result-oriented. I dun think primary education is following the preschool education, I tink the latter has no major national exams and standards to follow so they can afford to be more "fun".

BTW I love ur Phoebe's "Curly"... so cute!

yes, it's the exams. It's results that parents want to see. But if there's no exams, then parents would expect to see portfolio, then everything has to be filed in. Actually, it's the mindset of the parents that need to be changed.

Thanks for the compliments! :)

Oh ! When I say

"...primary school curriculum is following what the Pre-schools are doing."

I was refering to the approach of teaching English which the primary school curriculum is gearing towards.

In Phoebe's Pre-school, the children are introduced to a reader and then they draw learning points and activities from the readers. E.g. in Curly Worm, the art activity will be making a worm model and the children will learn about opposites coz the story touches on opposites too. They will sing songs about insects etc.

Hence, in Primary school's STELLAR, we also introduce a book to the primary pupils and we draw the teaching points from the story book. The approach is similar.

That's the reason why I say the primary education is following the pre-school's. It's the approach and method of teaching I was refering to. :)

Yalor, it's called "literature-based learning". Much less glam sounding but the same thing except they use real literature and not just readers. tis used throughout education at all levels, teaching English... much more activity-based than just worksheets. In fact, I shared with Jessy this website... u go and check it out. Maybe can do with Phoebe and Reuben...
