All the museums in Singapore are free of charge on New Year's Day. Being a true blue Singaporean and a cheapo mommy, how can I miss out on such good deal?!! We decided to visit the Peranakan Museum, after being inspired by "The Little Nyonya". Hey, no harm being a cheap skate okie coz we saved $18 in total ($6 per adult, children below 6 years old are free). It was not a very big place, a triple storey building. But there were much to see and the well-maintained artifacts were neatly categorised under different headings such as wedding, food, religion etc. We spent about 1.5 hours in there. I was very impressed with the little exploratory segments for children such as the touch screen computers with games and the magnetic boards for little fingers to fiddle with. Adults could also find out more information with the audio headphones and short video clips. It was worthwhile going and we had a happy new year day.
Children could "dress" the cartoon figures using the large magnetic sheets.
Touch screen computer games for children to explore and learn.
Beaded slippers, how many hours and days/nights spent just to sew these slippers which will wear out so quickly. Sigh... for me, it's not worth the effort.Phoebe listening to some music on a mini speaker embedded in a wall.
Listening using the headphones and watching the accompanying video clips.
The big hall where the Peranakan families receive their guests
Various Kebaya, dish and urns, all so colourful.
This is my favourite! It was actually a large piece of beaded rug. I would have gone blind or at least cross-eyed if I have to sew this! It was very intricately done. Such fine workmanship!
