Fisherkids

We found out about this place called Pasir Ris Kids' Kampong when Uncle Alex and Auntie Joyce brought their children and our family there last week. It's not a very elaborate place, simple setup but enough to excite the children. There were big ponds for koi and other variety of fish. The children were eager to catch small fish from the man-made stream aka long-kang. We paid $4 for half an hour catch. It was not easy because the fish were fast and the net was small. Well, I suppose that's how they can make money.

Initially, I thought half an hour was a little too short a time for fish catching. But I was wrong. Half an hour later, I have a sweaty little girl and a bag of fish. Phoebe happily showed me her prized possession. However, she didn't manage to catch any of them because the fish were too fast for her. Papa was the one doing all the hard work. Reuben was not allowed to the stream because he would definitely put his hand into the dirty water. So he went around looking at the koi in the fenced up pond. He eventually fell asleep when he set on the swing, waiting for his jie jie. It was a fun trip but I think we will revisit that place again maybe one or two years later, when Phoebe and Reuben are old enough to catch fish on their own. =)

Oh yes! To add on, this morning while Auntie Nia was cleaning the floor with a bucket of water, I saw Reuben looking into the bucket of water and he said, 'ish... ish...' Apparently, he thought that there were fish in Auntie's bucket because he had witnessed his jie jie putting her catch into a small bucket when they were in Kids Kampong. Hence, this morning, Reuben looked into Auntie Nia's bucket and said, 'ish... ish...' (meaning, fish, fish). Seems like the trip has some educational effect on him too! =)
